St Bede's College Old Boys Association

The St Bede's College Old Boys Association organises events and reunions that bring together former class mates, team mates or members of the wider Bedean community. Historically the main events have been the Annual Dinner, Annual Mass, Golf tournament, 40 year 1st XV reunion and 50 year reunion.

The Old Boys Association also undertakes a number of initiatives outside the social events. These undertakings reflect the guiding philosophies of the College and are very much 'good works,' generously supported by the Old Boys over past and present decades. These include:

  • The Mission Fund established in 1963, supports Old Boys who are Priests and missionaries. Contributions to this fund have generally been in the form of voluntary donations from Old Boys who have been most generous to this cause.
  • The War Memorial and 75th Jubilee Endowment Trust to support boys at the College.
  • The Year 13 presentation of Old Boys ties has become a tradition on the last day of formal schooling for leavers. Old Boys donate a tie and it is presented to a Year 13 student.

Recent Focus

By far the biggest challenge facing the College is the need to replace buildings and amenities that have been lost because of the earthquakes. The Board of Proprietors face a massive challenge with demolished and aged buildings needing to be replaced and ever-increasing costs for building. The historical role of the Association has always been to provide support to the College when asked and so the Association is once again committed to help the College raise money for the new chapel.
